So it happened recently that I caught a very decent deal on the X-T3, which I’ve been eyeing since its realease now. I simply was in now hurry to upgrade and how could I, with the X-Pro 2 still holding up nicely. But with Fujifilms cashback deal and an included battery grip for the X-T3 it was simply an offer I could not refuse.
And there lies my main reason to upgrade already – the battery grip. Since I shoot a lot of portraits I often shoot in just that orientation – and while the X-Pro 2s ergonomics are truely great, shooting portrait orientation is not so comfortable. In no way did I have a special need for the new sensor or the faster autofocus, but oh well, guess I’ll take it. And so far especially the new back-side-illuminated sensor has not dissapointed me. It just gives me that little extra portion of image quality. The handling and ergonomics though are where the X-T3 truely shines. It fits my hand perfectly, the battery grip even improves on that by a decent chunk more. All the buttons are in perfect reach and the separate dials for ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation are ideally placed and very crisp.
A buyer for my trusty X-Pro 2 was quickly found, there is always a demand for used Fujifilm gear and the market is nowhere near saturated at the moment, so maybe thats something to take into thought as well if you’re in the market for a new camera right now.
I still have quite a few images of my X-Pro 2 to share, but new material will be flowing in soon! Let me know what you think – do you upgrade your gear regularly or you stick with a model for as long as possible?
